About

When I first began working in the information security and data forensics fields I was frustrated with the then currently available tools. Back then, Linux boot CDs had nothing to do with forensics, and did not provide a forensically sound environment. I kept notes on what I would want a CD to do, and a list of programs I would want installed.

As time passed I realized that the solution to my problem was not to cripple a DOS boot diskette or remaster a Linux boot CD, but to develop my own CD. This would alleviate my frustration and provide me with a CD I could use in my day-to-day work, as well as something I could continue to maintain and develop as my needs and other factors within the industry changed.

THE FARMER'S BOOT CD had been developed and was being used by myself for roughly a year before I decide to go public with it. A number of colleagues were responsible for this. They saw FBCD, liked it, and wanted to use it in their work. Without them, you would not be reading this now.

THE FARMER'S BOOT CD began as a Slackware Linux environment, heavily customized and optimized for data forensics. The incubus was laid somewhere around 2002-2003. The first official release was made available to designated organizations in 2004. Fast forward to 2008, and FBCD still uses Slackware, and is still heavily customized and optimized for data forensics. What's changed? The Linux kernel, the installed applications, and the support for hardware and file system types.

Know that FBCD is being used the World over. So if you decide to invest in FBCD, you will join the ranks of many people from around the World who have identified FBCD as a solution to their needs. FBCD is used by data recovery specialists, data forensic practitioners, incident response handlers, information security consultants, disaster recovery specialists, system administrators, and other members of various military, law enforcement, academic, and corporate communities. It has been used in both civil and criminal cases.
